The Edo State House of Assembly has removed its Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, from office.Agbebaku, who represents Owan West Constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was impeached during plenary on Monday, August 17, 2026.
In his place, Osawmonyi Atu, the lawmaker representing Orhiownmon 1 Constituency, was appointed as the new Speaker.
Atu had previously served as Deputy Speaker before his elevation.Agbebaku rose to the position in January 2025 after defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
