Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser, says the federal government is addressing the recent security breach in some communities in Bokkos LGA of Plateau state.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Samson Zhakom, spokesperson
of operation SAFE HAVEN, said Ribadu spoke on the recent attacks in Plateau at
its headquarters during his operational visit to the state.
On Wednesday, several people were killed during attacks on
the Ruwi, Hurti, and Tadai communities in Bokkos LGA, as well as the Manguna
and Dafo villages in Plateau.
Over 50 people were reportedly killed, 1,000 displaced and
more than 300 houses destroyed in the attack.
According to Zhakom, the NSA said he was in Plateau
following the directive of President Bola Tinubu to restore normalcy to the
communities recently attacked by gunmen in the state.
Ribadu commended security agencies for their timely response
in curtailing the situation.
He assured the people of the state that the federal
government will ensure all arrested suspects in connection to the recent
attacks are brought to justice.
He added that the improvement in the security setup will be
sustained to deliver more operational successes in the country.
“Of course, we have to understand, this is a long-standing issue
that has been ongoing for decades. For over 20 years we’ve had this,” Ribadu
said.
“But you know, the issue of security and situations like
this is relative. You have to look at it from the point of what was happening
before and what is happening now.
“I think we have made a bit of progress. The last time we
had any serious incident was in December 2023. And now this one.”
