Maharazu Tsiga, a former director-general (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has reunited with his family after spending over 50 days in captivity.
On February 5, suspected bandits abducted Tsiga at his
residence in Bakori LGA of Katsina state.
The former DG, who is also a retired major general, was
reportedly abducted alongside several residents of Tsiga village.
He was released on Wednesday after spending 56 days in
captivity.
On Thursday, the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC)
handed Tsiga and 18 other kidnapped victims to Nuhu Ribadu, national security
adviser (NSA).
Narrating his experience, the former NYSC DG said that apart
from the dangers from the abductors, the victims also faced dangers from the
wild animals living in the mountain where they were held hostage.
He added that the terrorists did not fear God but the
military aircraft.
“The day before yesterday, on the mountain I was staying,
unexpectedly, we just looked around, and we saw a hyena parading around us to
get its own food. And which kind of food? We, the human beings,” he was quoted
to have said by NAN.
“Those of us that have experienced that place, we always
stay with snakes and scorpions.
“For those who knew our rank, whenever they are being
attacked, sincerely speaking, they bring us out so that the aircraft can hit
us.”
