‘I’m alive, well’ — Sunny Ade dismisses daughter’s abduction claim

King Sunny Ade, the veteran Juju singer, has denied claims that he was abducted.

On Monday, Damilola Adeniyi Adegeye, the singer’s daughter, accused her step-brother Dayo, who also acts as his manager, of holding him hostage.

She claimed he was being made to “work under duress” while the family remained unaware of his whereabouts.

In an Instagram post, Sunny Ade described Damilola’s accusations as “false and fabricated” while saying he is “alive and well”.

He also threatened legal action against bloggers who attempted to “tarnish his reputation” with the claims, while appreciating his fans for their concern.

“Contrary to the falsehood and fabricated news dated 28th April, 2025 peddled by Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye and her Associates who declared that I was missing, I hereby state as follows,” the post reads.

“That I, Dr. Sunday Adeniyi-Adegeye MFR, also known as King Sunny Ade, I am alive and well.

“The falsehood about my disappearance or being missing by Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye and her cohorts is completely false.

“I am alive, well, and grateful for the love and support of my fans; thanks for your concern.

“It is very important to address the falsehood and fabricated news by Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye and her associates and to assure the general public and loved ones that I am alive and safe.

“Lastly, I utilize this medium to admonish the blogger(s) responsible for this mischievous act alongside those that take undue privileges to trample on my hard-earned reputation and image to desist forthwith; otherwise, be prepared to face the wrath of the law.”

In a video via Facebook, the Juju singer explained why he wasn’t accessible.

He said he performed at an event in the Lekki axis of Lagos last Saturday and was resting ahead of another event.

“My children, everyone wants to see me. It was during the time I took to rest that I wasn’t accessible, but glory to God, I’m here,” he said.

“I was not kidnapped. I’m thankful to my fans for the check-up, support, concern, and love.

“I’m on my way to a show now. Last Saturday, I was at a show at Lekki, Lagos so I wonder why people would say I was kidnapped.”
