Ibok-Ete Ibas, the sole administrator of Rivers, has approved the appointment of chairmen and members for the state civil service and local government service commissions.
A statement issued on Wednesday by Ibibia Worika, secretary
to the state government (SSG), said the appointments take effect from April 7.
According to the statement, Livinus Bariki and Isreal Amadi
will serve as chairmen of the state’s civil service and local government
service commissions, respectively.
“The newly appointed members of the Civil Service Commission
are: Lot Peter Egopija, Maeve Ere Bestman, Joy Obiaju, and Charity Lloyd
Harry,” the statement reads.
“For the Local Government Service Commission, the appointed
members are: Linus Nwandem, Christabel Ego George Didia, Tonye Willie D Pepple,
Richard Ewoh, Emmanuel Ofik, and Sammy Apiafi.”
The development comes barely a week after Ibas suspended all
boards, parastatals, and commissions, and sacked political appointees installed
by Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended Rivers governor.
On March 25, Ibas announced the resignation of George Nwaeke
as head of service (HoS).
The affairs of the oil-rich state have been controlled by
the sole administrator since President Bola Tinubu declared a state of
emergency over a protracted political crisis and vandalisation of oil
facilities.
Tinubu also suspended Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu; and all
members of the Rivers assembly for an initial period of six months.
