A dramatic scene has unfolded on Wednesday, April 23, in Victoria Island, Lagos, after a motorist resorted to extreme measures to resist arrest by Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).
In a video that quickly went viral on social media, the unidentified man can be seen lying under his vehicle in an attempt to prevent officials from arresting him or towing the car.
The incident occurred during peak traffic hours along Akin Adesola Street, inward Ozumba Mbadiwe, causing a major traffic that stretched as far back as the Civic Centre axis.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) posted a video on X formerly known as Twitter, stating:
“A motorist resisting arrest from VIO officers has kept under his vehicle, thereby creating a scene and avoiding being towed at Akin Adesola inward Ozumba Mbadiwe, causing traffic backlog to Civic Centre.
VIO officers and Police officers are at the scene as LASTMA officers manage the traffic emanating from the scene.”
As of the time of this report, the reason for the attempted arrest has not been disclosed, but the incident has sparked a range of reactions online.
