The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, former presidential
candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Friday disclosed why he visited ex-President
Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State.
Former governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, Aminu Tambuwal of
Sokoto, and some politicians accompanied Atiku on the visit.
However, Atiku said he visited Buhari to pay post-Sallah
homage which he described as wonderful.
Posting on X, Atiku said the former president was in his humourous element with his rib-cracking jokes.
According to Atiku, his ribs hurt as a result of the jokes
by the former president.
He wrote: “As the Waziri Adamawa, I was obligated to be in
Adamawa during the Sallah celebrations. I held forth for the Lamido Fombina
(Adamawa) in some of the activities of the Sallah celebrations.
“Today, I had the opportunity to pay a post-Sallah visit to
His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
2015-2023. It was a wonderful time with him. As usual, he cracked me up (to the
extent that my ribs were hurting) with his peculiar humour.”
Atiku, El-Rufai and Tambuwal had stormed the state to meet
with opposition leaders.
This is coming at a time when Atiku, El-Rufai, and Peter Obi
of the Labour Party announced the formation of a coalition with the aim of
removing President Bola Tinubu from power in 2027.
Atiku announced the formation of the coalition during a
press conference by a group known as Concerned Leaders and Political
Stakeholders in Nigeria.
Following the announcement, a former presidential candidate
of the Social Democratic Party, Adewale Adebayo, said Atiku and Obi were in
talks to join the SDP.
He said if Atiku, Obi and other prominent politicians
willing to join SDP can stick to the party’s culture, they would defeat and
retire Tinubu and the APC.
But, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP,
Buba Galadima said El-Rufai was Atiku’s placeholder in the SDP should the PDP
deny him its presidential ticket.
