At least 25 people have been killed in the latest onslaught on a Plateau state community.
The killings reportedly occurred as gunmen invaded Kimakpa
village, Miango district, Bassa LGA of Plateau around 2:45am on Monday.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency
publication focused on the Lake Chad region, residents alerted security
agencies, prompting a swift response from a combined team of the Nigerian army,
the police, and the mobile police force stationed at Miango.
The security operatives engaged the attackers in a gun duel,
preventing further damage.
A search of the area led to the recovery of 25 corpses,
while four injured victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Troops have commenced a manhunt for the perpetrators with
additional deployments to the affected area.
Local sources said 47 deaths have so far been recorded from
the Kimakpa village attack.
An official of the Nigerian Red Cross Society added that 22
injured persons are now receiving treatment in health facilities.
Alfred Alabo, the Plateau police command spokesperson, did
not respond to calls or messages on the incident at the time of filing this
report.
The carnage comes less than two weeks after gunmen attacked
Ruwi community in Bokkos LGA as mourners gathered in the home of a deceased.
On April 2, gunmen invaded and killed scores of residents in
five communities in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs, leaving several houses destroyed.
More than 50 bodies were reportedly recovered in the wake of the attack.
