Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the All Progressives
Congress (APC), says the proposed coalition of opposition leaders ahead of the
2027 elections will fail.
Ganduje spoke with journalists on Friday during the visit of
the APC national working committee (NWC) to the residence of former President
Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna.
The APC national chairman said the visit was to greet Buhari
for the Sallah celebration and notify him of the achievements of the ruling
party since he left office.
Ganduje said the ruling party is not worried about the group
of politicians who had earlier visited the former president.
“We are here to pay Sallah greetings to the former president
and also we took time to explain to him the achievements of our party as he
left it,” the national chairman said.
“Concerning the group that came to see him, that is not a
concern to us. This is just history trying to repeat itself.
“They want a joint venture, which won’t work, because from
what we have seen, they are just some participles that cannot come together.
“It is a game. We won’t reveal our technicalities on how to
handle it. We are equal to the task.”
On appointments made by President Bola Tinubu, Ganduje said
there is no “skewness” in the president’s appointments, adding that a dataset
showing the correct figures will soon be published.
Some hours before the Ganduje-led NWC visited Buhari, a
delegation of some opposition leaders led by former Vice-President Atiku
Abubakar met with the former president at his Kaduna residence.
Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna; Aminu Tambuwal,
former governor of Sokoto; and Isa Pantami, former minister of communications,
were in the delegation.
The visit heightened the rumours about the possible
departure of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) faction from the APC.
The CPC was one of the four political parties that merged in
2013 to create the APC, with Buhari being a member of the CPC faction.
Despite the speculations, Buhari has affirmed that he would
never abandon the APC.
