Kano: Gov Yusuf swears in Farouk Ibrahim as new SSG

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, officially swore in Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) on Monday.

The ceremony took place at the Governor’s Office and was officiated by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi.

Ibrahim’s appointment comes months after the dismissal of his predecessor, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, who was removed from office along with the Chief of Staff and five other commissioners.

According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Ibrahim was chosen for his extensive experience and expertise, which are expected to help drive the administration’s development agenda and keep the state on course with its goals.

Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in Ibrahim’s ability to contribute meaningfully to his administration’s vision for Kano State.

With a distinguished public service career spanning over three decades (1987–2023), Ibrahim has held several key leadership roles that have significantly shaped Kano State’s governance and administrative structure.

From March 2001 to May 2015, he served as the Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

He later served as the Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services from June 2015 to March 2016.

As a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (1985), Ibrahim also obtained several professional certifications that further strengthen his credentials.
