Two arrested in Kano drug raid, officer stabbed

The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two suspects during a targeted operation at Rahama Round in Bebeji Local Government Area.

The operation, conducted on January 20, 2025, led to the apprehension of Musa Usman, 25, and Buhari Ya’u Bashir, 24, alongside the seizure of various quantities of illicit substances.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano State Command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, disclosed that the suspects were found in possession of 1.1 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 8 grams of diazepam (38 tablets), and 59 grams of Exol (165 tablets).

The operation reportedly escalated when Musa Usman, armed with a dagger, attempted to resist arrest by attacking the operatives. One officer sustained a stab wound during the confrontation.

Reacting to the incident, the Kano State Commander of the NDLEA, Abubakar Idris Ahmad condemned the violent actions of the suspects, describing the attack as unacceptable.

“Attacks on law enforcement officers in the line of duty will not deter us from carrying out our mandate to rid society of the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking,” Ahmad stated.

He further assured the public that the suspects are in custody and will face prosecution for drug-related offenses and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
