Russia has given conditions to start negotiating nuclear disarmament talks with the United States.
According to Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, Moscow will
engage with Washington but only if the nuclear arsenals of both the United
Kingdom and France are included.
This is coming after United States President Donald Trump
said yesterday that he wanted to work towards reducing nuclear arms.
Trump also suggested that Russia and China might also
support scaling back their weapons.
However, responding to Trump’s comments, Peskov told TASS:
“We are certainly interested in starting the negotiation process as soon as
possible.”
But Peskov also added: “In the current situation, all
nuclear capacities need to be taken into account.
“In particular, it’s impossible to hold a conversation
without taking into consideration the nuclear capacities of France and the
United Kingdom.
“The current realities make it necessary,” he further
stated.
