Shehu Sani slams El-Rufai over ‘Illiterates as leaders’ comment

The former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani, has lambasted former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over his recent political remarks.

Sani opined that the former governor practiced tyranny while in power, expressing surprise that El-Rufai now preaches democracy after leaving office.

On Monday, at an event in Abuja, Nasir El-Rufai accused his party, the All Progressives Congress, of abandoning its founding principles and promoting poor leadership.

El-Rufai further stated, “You cannot afford to have illiterates, semi-illiterates, and cunning people as your leaders. This is why we end up with the poor leadership we have today.”

Reacting to El-Rufai’s comments in a telephone interview on Tuesday, Shehu Sani observed, “The man with a history of undisguised intolerance to the opposition and a hypersensitive allergy to criticisms has no moral or saintly authority to stand on the pulpit of democracy to preach about good governance.”

Shehu Sani said that El-Rufai demonized the opposition while in power but now embraces them in the wilderness, adding, “El-Rufai’s behavior is like someone bitter over rejection. If Nasir El-Rufai is in a Keke Napep, he will call it a Lamborghini; if he is thrown out of the Lamborghini, he will call it a Keke Napep.”

Sani alleged that, according to El-Rufai, Tinubu’s government today is led by illiterates because they refused to appoint Professor Nasiru, whom Sani claimed “left behind a heap of garbage in Kaduna and is now preaching hygiene in Nigeria.”
