IGP orders crackdown on Boko Haram over attack on Borno police station


An immediate clampdown on those responsible for the explosion at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State, which claimed the lives of two police officers, has been ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.


On January 9, 2025, at around 12:10 a.m., an attack occurred, resulting in the deaths of Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.


The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, explained in a statement that suspected Boko Haram terrorists were behind the attack.


The IG, while condemning the act, stated that no individual or group involved in killing police officers would go unpunished.


In a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IG extended his condolences to the families of the deceased officers and assured them of the prompt payment of their benefits and entitlements.


According to the statement: “In a resolute response to the recent explosion attack at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State, on 9th January 2025, at about 12:10 a.m., which led to the death of two police officers — Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat — the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the attack and ordered an immediate and thorough clampdown on the perpetrators, as any cop-killers will not go unpunished.”


The IGP expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased officers, affirming that their sacrifice in the line of duty would not be forgotten, and that their benefits and entitlements would be promptly paid to their families.


Adejobi stated that the IG has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone 15, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to deploy all necessary resources and personnel to track down the perpetrators.


The IGP further directed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc., to mobilize adequate resources and collaborate with other security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of this nefarious act are found and made to face the full wrath of the law.


Reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, the IG vowed to hold accountable anyone who disrupts the country’s security. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
