The Nigeria Police Force have dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that shows uniformed personnel in camouflage allegedly scooping fuel from the wreckage of a tanker accident.
This was made known in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, via X on Monday.
The police clarified that the individuals in the video are not officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
Instead, they are uniformed personnel from a neighboring francophone country whose camouflage uniforms closely resemble those of the Nigerian police.
The statement reads: “The viral video circulating in the media that depicts uniformed personnel in camouflage scooping fuel from the wreckage of an accidented tanker was just released to discredit the Nigeria Police Force. It is essential to clarify that the individuals in the video are not officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
“They are uniformed personnel from a neighbouring francophone country whose camouflage uniforms bear a resemblance to the Nigeria Police’s.”
According to the statement, the officers in the video were speaking in French rather than any Nigerian language or English.
“The captured officers were speaking in French, not a Nigerian language or English.”
The police strongly condemned the spread of such disinformation and unverified content aimed at tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force.
