Olubunmi Fabode, the first daughter of Pastor Tunde Bakare,
Serving Overseer of Citadel Global Community, has disclosed that her parent’s
marriage was a battleground for generational curses.
She, however, disclosed that her prayers prevented them from
getting a divorce.
She spoke during the 40th wedding anniversary of her parents
in Lagos over the weekend.
Fabode also disclosed that her love for her siblings
motivated her to pray for her parent’s marriage.
She said: “When I was seven years old, my father came to the
room and told me ‘Your mother and I are going our separate ways. I am telling
you this so you can decide who you want to live with’.
“I did not care so much about my mum and dad not living
together, but I thought if they were separated, my siblings may choose either
of our parents.
“And I knew that could not work because I absolutely love my
siblings. They are the joy of my life. I knew that something had to happen to
interrupt that plan was about to hatch.
“She was raised by a British foster parent, then her
grandmother, and was eventually raised by her father and stepmother.
“Their marriage was not just a union, it was a battleground.
A place where generational curses were confronted and wrestled to the ground.”
Bakare is a known advocate for better governance in Nigeria.
The distinguished lawyer who recently turned 70 was
described as an advocate of change in Nigeria.
Tinubu had said Bakare was pivotal in leading civil
demonstrations during critical periods in Nigeria’s history.
Also, former President Muhammadu Buhari described Pastor
Bakare as a gadfly and a valuable asset to Nigeria.
He further described Dr. Bakare as a living legend who left
a lucrative law practice to work as a pastor, a towering figure in nation
building, and an embodiment of intellect, integrity, and courage.
