Former Deputy Governor the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN,
Kingsley Moghalu has suggested factors likely to have made former President
Donald Trump defeat Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential
election.
Moghalu stated that Americans were not ready yet for a
female President.
Trump on Wednesday defeated Harris to emerge the 47th
President of the United States.
The ex-Deputy Governor also cited the perception of the
economy by Americans, explaining that inflation was high for most of the
campaign season.
In a post on his X handle on Wednesday, Moghalu explained
that the election showed that despite Trump’s controversial legal record and
personality, Americans broadly wanted him.
His words: “Why Harris lost to Trump:
“1. Sexism (Americans are not ready yet for a female
President)
“2. (Perceptions of) the Economy – Inflation that’s coming
down but was high for most of the campaign season.
“3. Harris could not overcome the skepticism of the white
working class.
“Many reasons for this, including both racism and sexism.
Obama overcame racism, but his mother was white and the timing was propitious.
“4. That Trump’s victory was sweeping, encompassing
virtually all the “battleground” states including the “blue wall” of
Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin says something: despite Trump’s
controversial legal record and personality, Americans broadly wanted him. They
are not as enamored of the “woke” liberal agenda as the left-leaning media
would have us believe. They want a return to more “traditional” values, even if
Trump was not necessarily the perfect exemplar of those values.
“Traditional values” cloaks many things, some good and some
bad. Harris ran an excellent campaign (in a short 100 days!), worked hard, and
organized well. She simply could not overcome the factors (good and bad) that
drove support for Trump.”
