On Friday night, the PDP governors and other stakeholders
met during a gala night at the banquet hall of the Plateau government house.
The gala night was attended by Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Ahmadu
Fintiri of Adamawa, Kefas Agbu of Taraba, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Bala Mohammed
of Bauchi, and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau.
The deputy governors of Bayelsa, Enugu, and Plateau states
also attended the meeting.
Other stakeholders at the event were Illiya Damagum, acting
national chairman; Jonah David Jang, former governor of Plateau; Ahmed Makarfi,
former governor of Kaduna; Babangida Aliyu, former governor of Niger; Kabiru
Tanimu Turaki, chairman of PDP ministers’ forum.
Speaking during the event, Mutfwang commended the PDP
stakeholders who came to Plateau to support the governors’ forum in the bid to
move the party forward.
The Plateau governor said there is a need to restore PDP’s
reputation as the party of choice for Nigerians.
“Even though this is primarily a meeting of governors, it is
gratifying to see party leaders and stakeholders from various states filling this
room to support the governors as we strategize to ensure not only the stability
of our party but also its ability to continue providing hope to Nigerians,”
Mutfwang said.
Als speaking, Mohammed, chairman of the PDP governors’
forum, said despite the “minor” challenges in the PDP, the party remains an
“unbreakable political party offering Nigerians hope and good governance”.
“Governor Mutfwang has shown us that the Plateau is indeed a
melting pot where everyone is welcome,” Bauchi governor said.
“The PDP remains an indivisible party. Despite minor
hiccups, we are united with all organs and leaders of the party.
“We will continue to work together to provide Nigerians with
opportunities for better governance.”
Since 2022, the PDP has been mired in an internal crisis.
The internal wrangling in the party has festered, polarising the party and the
NWC.
A faction of the party wants Damagum to be removed as the
acting national chairman while another faction wants Damagum to continue to
occupy the position.
