Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has said the terrorist group, Lukarawas in Sokoto State is not new, noting that the group is affiliated to a chain of foreign commanders.
The Defence Headquarters, last week Thursday confirmed the
emergence of the new terrorist group in the North-western part of the country.
Reports indicate that members of the Lakurawa sect are
currently making life unbearable for residents of Sokoto State.
Sani had earlier expressed worries over the emergence of
Lukarawas in Sokoto State.
However, in a post via his X handle, Sani wrote, “Lakurawa
is not a new terrorist group. It’s part of the chain of terrorist forces
unleashing evil along the length of the Sahel.
“The major difference between the Lakurawa & the
Nigerian-based bandits and terror groups is that the chain of command of the
former are foreigners. Lakurawa is likely to engage in a continuous battle of
supremacy against their Nigerian counterparts”.
Sani further advised that combating and annihilating
Lakurawa demands a multinational action, especially between Benin Republic,
Niger & Nigeria.
“Pursuing a ‘jihadist’ agenda by beheading innocent people
is nothing but a despicable act of lunacy. Nigeria will never be subjugated or
conquered by such evil souls, but this is a challenge to ECOWAS to unite and
fight”, he wrote.
