There was panic on Friday when a fire incident broke out at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja.
The incident, which was said to have happened immediately
after workers resumed for the day, was attributed to a spark from a faulty
circuit breaker on the ground floor.
However, the incident was quickly contained before much
damage was done.
The Director of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Mohammed A. Ahmed, while confirming the incident, said it was a minor incident.
“A minor fire incident occurred at 11:30 am at Block A of
the Ministry.
“The incident was a result of a spark from a faulty circuit
breaker in the electrical control room on the ground floor.
“The Station Commander, Federal Fire Service, Federal
Ministry of Works, Headquarters, Mr Kekai Bekebi, informed me that there was a
quick response from his team, who were able to put the situation under control
by deploying available fire extinguishers. He added that a successful
evacuation exercise of staff was also carried out.
“The Director, Human Resource Management, Mr Aliyu Abdullahi
stated that no loss of document, no injuries, and no casualties were recorded,
as he further commended the staff for their general conduct while the incident
lasted,” he said.
Meanwhile, normal activities have since resumed with
maintenance staff cleaning the debris and putting other items in place.
