Umo Eno, Akwa Ibom state governor, has announced a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants in the state.
Eno made the announcement in a memo issued by Ini Ememobong,
the state’s commissioner for information and strategy, on Wednesday.
“To ensure a smooth rollout of this policy, the governor has
also constituted an implementation committee, which has been given one month to
deliver its report on how the new wage will be executed,” the memo reads.
The 15-member implementation committee will he chaired by
Effiong Essien, head of the civil service in the state.
Meanwhile, Nasir Idris, Kebbi state governor, has also
approved N75,000 as the new minimum wage for the state’s civil servants.
Murtala Usman, chair of the Nigerian Labour Congress in
Kebbi, confirmed the new wage.
“Mr governor has shown that he is with the workers in the
state. We proposed three tables for him,” Usman said.
“We proposed N72,000,
N73,000, and N75,000, and he decided to go for N75,000, which shows he is for
the workers.
“He also said the payment starts this month of October, with
salaries categorically set to be made available to workers in the next 72
hours.”
