Monday Okpebholo, governor-elect of Edo, has been spotted kneeling before Senate President Godswill Akpabio in appreciation after his victory at the gubernatorial election in the state.
Akpabio, who was in Edo during Saturday’s election, is said
to have been instrumental in making sure Okpebholo was the flag bearer of the
All Progressives Congress (APC) in the poll.
Initially, Adams Oshiomhole, senator representing Edo north,
was backing Dennis Idahosa, a serving house of representatives member, for the
ticket.
However, Okpebholo clinched the ticket and Idahosa became his running mate.
Okpebholo, a serving senator, won the election with 291,667
votes to defeat his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP), who polled 247,274 votes.
Olumide Akpata, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), came
a distant third with 22, 763 votes.
The APC won the election in 11 of the 18 LGAs in Edo, while
the PDP secured victories in the remaining seven LGAs.
