Manchester United are now looking to pull down Old Trafford if a new £2billion mega stadium is approved.
New minority owner of the club, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has made no secret of his desire to build a new ground.
In a bid to achieve this, Ratcliffe set up the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force which has Lord Coe and Gary Neville, in February.
The plan is to build a new 100,000-seater stadium which has been dubbed as a potential ‘Wembley of the North’.
It was previously claimed Old Trafford would be scaled down in capacity and kept to preserve the club’s history and provide a home for United’s women and academy teams if a new stadium was built on adjacent land.
But The Mail is now reporting that the famous old ground is now more likely to be demolished.
It is believed that keeping a scaled back Old Trafford is unrealistic due to the complex nature of the plans, as well as the cost of what would effectively be a separate stadium project.
