Afam Osigwe, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has won the 2024 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election.
Voting began at 12am on Saturday and ended at 11.59pm.
Osigwe, a former general secretary of the association,
polled 20,435 votes to defeat Tobenna Erojikwe, chairman of the NBA Institute
of Continuing Legal Education Board, who garnered 10,998 votes.
Chukwuka Ikwuazom, former NBA Lagos branch chairman, scored
9,018 votes to place third.
Ikwuazom had withdrawn from the presidential election hours
before the online poll closed, citing a manipulation of the process.
“Since the commencement of voting earlier today, my
supporters and I have observed disturbing patterns that do not align with the
actual votes cast,” Ikwuazom said.
Osigwe will succeed Yakubu Maikyau who has been NBA
president since 2022.
