A federal high court in Abuja has granted bail to Martins ‘VeryDarkMan’ Otse, the controversial social media critic, who was remanded in police custody for alleged cyberbullying.
The social media celebrity was also released from police
custody after satisfying his bail condition on Monday.
Details of the bail condition have not been disclosed — as
of the time of this report.
On May 22, Otse was arraigned at the federal high court in
Abuja on five counts bordering on cyberstalking.
One of the charges, which was filed by the Nigerian police,
alleged that the defendant posted videos on his Instagram handle containing information
that was “grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or
menacing character”.
In another charge, the defendant was said to have alleged
that Iyabo Ojo was having an indecent sexual relationship with her daughter.
Police further claimed that the defendant alleged that Tonto
Dikeh was the person behind the gossip blog Gistlover.
The social media celebrity however pleaded not guilty to all
the charges.
The prosecution sought to have the social media critic in
prison but his lawyers applied for him to be kept in police custody. The court
granted their request and he was taken to the National Cybercrime Centre.
The activist was first arrested on March 22 but released on
March 31.
VeryDarkman’s legal representative revealed he was arrested
and detained based on a petition filed by the Dikeh, Ojo, and singer Samklef.
In January, Dikeh also secured the arrest of the social
media celebrity over alleged cyberbullying and cyberstalking.
VeryDarkMan was later released from police custody.
