The Abia house of assembly has threatened to terminate its contract with the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company over an alleged breach of an agreement to produce vehicles for the lawmakers.
Emmanuel Emeruwa, the speaker of the assembly, told
journalists on Thursday that the lawmakers have yet to receive their vehicles
one year after their inauguration.
He said the preference for IVM vehicles was informed by the
initiative of Alex Otti, governor of the state, to promote local content.
Emeruwa said the company had received all the money required
to produce vehicles for the lawmakers but had reneged on the agreement.
“So far, Innoson has
not been able to produce or perform its own side of the agreement. At this
point, we are on the verge of terminating that contract and asking for our
money back if he doesn’t perform within the next 15 days,” the speaker said.
“This house is very serious about it, and they cannot
continue pacifying us after one year.”
Earlier this month, Innoson donated a firefighting truck to
the Abia government.
Innocent Chukwuma, chairman and managing director of
Innoson, said the donation was his company’s contribution in response to the
fire incidents in the state.
