The Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Nigerian Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has thrown his weight behind the proposed State Police.
Nwebonyi, who’s also a member of the Senate Constitution Review Committee, gave the hints during his interview with the AIT in their program tagged: “ Inside Parliament” shortly after plenary on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
The astute lawmaker and senior lawyer noted that the state police has become imperative in order to mitigate the security challenges across the country, which seem to have overwhelmed the federal police.
Lending his voice to the proposed increase in electricity tariffs, the federal legislator reiterated his earlier stand that it’s a height of insensitivity to contemplate any increase at this moment when Nigerians are experiencing a harrowing economic quagmire.
The Nigerian representative at ECOWAS parliament further charged Nigerians to keep faith with the President Tinubu-led administration, insisting that the dividends of his audacious economic policies will soon be harvested by all the citizens.
Senator Nwebonyi also maintained that the ongoing constitutional amendment will address all the loopholes in governance, adding that the amendment is timely because the constitution was a military creation.
He revealed that the bountiful harvest of the 2024 budget would soon be harvested by all Nigerians.
“Of course, Nigerians should expect the best. We have passed our budget. Very soon, the proceeds of the budget will start flowing out all towards making Nigerians happy in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu ‘s administration,” he said.
