The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says the spraying of naira notes at social events reduces the dignity of the currency.
In a post on its official X page on Monday, the anti-graft agency urged Nigerians to respect the currency.
“Respect the Naira! Ridiculing our currency weakens our collective pride,” the EFCC wrote under its Eagle Series.
“The dignity of naira go decline as you dey spray babe wey fine because she sabi dance and whine, guys go step on naira wey dey shine, e go come ugly like juju for shrine,” the anti-graft agency added.
The commission has recently intensified the arrest of those who abuse the naira.
On April 4, Bobrisky, the social media celebrity, was arrested by the EFCC for allegedly abusing the naira notes.
On April 14, the commission announced that it was
investigating several celebrities who may have been involved in currency abuse.
On April 16, the EFCC filed a three-count charge against
Cubana Chief Priest, the nightlife promoter, for alleged abuse of the Nigerian
currency.
On May 20, the anti-graft agency said its operatives in Kano
secured the conviction of 31 individuals involved in illegal currency trading
and abuse of the naira.
On May 21, the commission said its operatives arrested a
woman, Janty Emmanuel, in Gombe for abusing the naira at a social event.
