Vice President Kashim Shettima says that President Bola Tinubu has made security his top priority and is determined to end insecurity.
Shettima made the remark while noting that Nigeria has been
under the threat of Boko Haram for too long.
The Vice President spoke yesterday in Abuja at the launch of
two books written by former Nigerian ambassador to Russia, Professor Abdullahi
Shehu.
The books are titled: “Boko Haram and Other Security Challenges in Nigeria: Issues and Options for Policy” and Reflections on the 2023 General Elections: Lessons Learned and the Future of Democracy in Nigeria.”
Represented by his Special Adviser on General Duties, Dr
Aliyu Modibbo Umar, the Vice President said: “For far too long, Nigeria has
been under the threat of terrorist organisations like Boko Haram, who seek to
erase existence through violence.
“We are also at the mercy of historical revisionists whose
hidden agenda is to distort our national narrative. These daunting realities
serve as the inspiration behind the books we gather to present today.
“His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has made
security a top priority, and so the empirical research provided by scholars
like Professor Shehu is essential.
“They serve as indispensable resources for informing policy
reforms and driving national development.
“We understand that it is through such intellectual inquiry
and data-driven analysis that we can chart a course towards a more secure and
prosperous Nigeria.”

Nigeria security forces are not doing enough to eradicate insecurity in the country. How can a nation be fighting terrorism for the past years without a head way whereas, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger republic have been able to secure their respective countries by dealing ruthlessly with terrorists groups in less than one year. Corruption in Nigeria is the major reason Nigeria why he is still grappling in eliminating these criminals. Budget meant for arms procurement are diverted by politicians and military commanders without any consequences. They bring in refurbished weapons that can not withstand human riots. Nigeria ought to have fifth generation fighter planes and not fighter jets. However, to fight seriously fight terrorism in their hideouts, they need combat helicopters with infrared cameras that can zoom and ascertain kidnappers hideouts. If Nigeria want to fight terrorism vigorously, states need 2-3 combat helicopters each as a stand by military intervention when pilots receive intelligence informations about their hideouts. These helicopters are more easier to deploy in forests of operations, and they are adaptable to comb forests and thick bushes along the highway’s in the state and its regions. It is shameful that is not capable to stop this terror dent in the history of this country. Nigeria does not need mercenaries to fight for him because he’s equipped with professional army. All what the military needs is sophisticated weapons, military hardwares like advanced mobile satellite to locate terrorists base. Mali was able to defeat terrorism because they were heavily equipped with redoutable weapons from Russia and lots of drones
