Simi Gold, the actress who was jailed for abusing the naira
notes, has offered her support to Bobrisky, the crossdresser who is battling
the same case.
The social media celebrity was arrested on Wednesday night
in Lagos for defacing the naira notes.
The crossdresser was arraigned on a six-count charge on
Friday before the federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos by the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
While four of the charges are related to naira abuse, the
remaining two counts involve alleged money laundering.
When the charge was read during the court sitting, the
self-proclaimed transgender pleaded guilty to the first four counts bordering
on naira abuse.
Abimbola Awogboro, the presiding judge, also struck out
counts five and six which are on the money laundering allegations following the
request of the EFCC’s counsel.
The crossdresser is expected to remain in the EFCC custody
as the case was adjourned till April 9.
Reacting to Bobrisky’s ordeal via a post on her Instagram
story, Gold shared a picture of herself and the crossdresser while encouraging
him.
She accompanied the post with the caption: “Bobrisky,
nothing do you my friend, you are coming out of this stronger with your head
up”.
In a follow-up post, Gold also wrote: “Sending you loads of
love, my sweetheart.”
Gold was arrested in February 2023 after a video of her
spraying and stepping on the naira notes at a party surfaced online.
She was sentenced to six months in prison in February 2024.
The court handed down the sentence with an option of a N300,000 fine.
