The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, on Wednesday, approved an increase in electricity tariff for customers under the Band A classification.
The Vice Chairman, NERC, Musliu Oseni, said the increase
will see the customers paying N225 kilowatt per hour (KW/h) from the current
N66.
Customers under Band A are those who enjoy 20-24 hours of
electricity supply daily while those in Band B are subscribers who enjoy 16 to
20 hours. Those in Band C enjoy 12 to 16 hours daily.
Also, Band D subscribers are beneficiaries of eight to 12
hours daily and Band E subscribers only enjoy four to eight hours of
electricity consumption everyday.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Oseni said
customers in Band A represent a 15 per cent of the 12 million electricity
customers in the country which is about 1.8 million subscribers.
He added that the review will not affect customers on the
other bands.
Citing sources, Bloomberg had on Tuesday reported that power
companies will be allowed to raise electricity prices to N200 ($0.15) per KW/h
from N68 for urban consumers.
It quoted people in the presidency with knowledge of the
matter saying this was in a bid to attract new investment and slash about $2.3
billion spent to cap tariffs.
In this report, PUNCH Online highlights the Lagos State
subscribers of the Band A tariff plan who are beneficiaries of the 20 to 24
hours of electricity daily consumption in a document prepared by Ikeja
Electricity Distribution Company.

It's a disgrace that after 50 years of Nigeria independent they can still be publishing it with pride that some customers are in band A and others in Band whatever they call it. All the money the government is using to subsidised, why can't the money be used to make provision for different technologies that can aid the generation of power to be sufficient for all and sundries
ReplyDeleteI live at Jibowu, Thanni Olodo in Lagos Mainland. The sad truth is we are completely cut off from power supply. This has lasted for 3 months and counting. The reason for this, we are unaware and the pain and sufferings, the power company is causing is very sad. There's nothing wrong with our transformer, they bring the light just to taunt us for less than 10 mins some days. It's really sad.
ReplyDeleteIt's high time we all sit together and discuss...where lies the panacea...we'll soon publish an article that shows the negligence and stupidity of NEPA, GRA in Lagos to be precise so that people should atleast find another alternative...dats why u will always c them dirty like there minds
ReplyDeleteThe truth is, IKEDC and, it's subsidiaries are extinct for this day and age and should be scrapped! They were not properly privatized hence, the nonsense still going on in the power sector! I saw my area among the Band A meanwhile, on their website, we're on Band C! We hardly have up to 8 hours of power every day! At the moment, we've not had power for over 3 days! Where on earth did they see that we're enjoying power for up to 20-24 hours??? Nigerians need to occupy Nigeria, we've been pushed to the wall far enough! What's all this?! Are they trying to suffocate us??
ReplyDeleteWe are bandless in my area o.....4 days of no light for a supposed 2 days on,1 day off... There's always fault on our on days and they count it like that...... There was a country called Nigeria!
ReplyDeleteI live in akoka no light at all
