Haiti crisis: Same way El-Rufai paid ransom to bandits, Buhari kept quiet – Omokri warns

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari folded his hands and watched when Governor Nasir El-Rufai started the practice of paying ransom to bandits.

He said this while drawing attention to the recent happenings in Haiti, where gangs have taken over the government in a total breakdown of law and order.

He recalled that these bandits went on rampage during President Muhammadu Buhari administration, but instead of facing them squarely, the government paid them ransom.

“Look at Haiti. Gangs have taken over. The gang lord, Barbecue, is now effectively the leader of Haiti. The breakdown of law and order is complete,” he wrote on X.

“Former prisoners and criminals are now in control. In Nigeria, we should learn from this. When Nasir El-Rufai started the practice of paying bandits, the Buhari administration kept quiet. The media did not push back.

“Now, bandit attacks and abductions have become so entrenched. In some places, citizens even pay taxes to bandits. And under Buhari, these bandits attacked Kuje prison and freed hundreds of their colleagues.

“Do we want to go the way of Haiti? If we don’t, we must close ranks and unite against banditry so we don’t end up with a gang leader like Barbecue calling the shots in Abuja.”
