The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Super Eagles head coach is vacant.
On March 1, Jose Peseiro announced his departure from the
role of the head coach of Nigeria’s men’s senior national team.
The Portuguese, appointed Eagles head coach in 2022, said
his contract with the NFF had run out, and no new deal had been agreed on.
Peseiro’s exit came a few weeks after he led Nigeria to the
silver medal at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote
d’Ivoire.
NFF had not released an official statement on the
development since Peseiro’s announcement.
However, in a statement on its website on Friday, NFF called
for applications from coaches looking to succeed the Portuguese.
The federation also added requirements that prospective
applicants must meet to land the job.
“Here’s what we’re looking
for in our next Super Eagles Head Coach: Top-tier qualifications — You’ll
possess the necessary coaching qualifications to lead a national team. Elite
experience — Proven experience managing football at the highest level is
essential,” the statement reads.
“Winning mentality — A successful track record of leading
teams to victories is a must. Africa in focus — While not mandatory, knowledge
of African football will be a strong positive.”
NFF added that prospective applicants must send emails to
jobs@thenff.com before March 12.
The federation also declared the Golden Eaglets head coach
role vacant and called on interested candidates to apply for the position.
