Tobi Amusan sets new African indoor record in 60m hurdles

Tobi Amusan has set a new African women’s indoor record in 60 meters after she dipped 7.75 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston.

The 26-year-old blitzed across the indoor circuit on Sunday to retire the 7.77 seconds record she set at the Astana Indoor Meet, Kazakhstan, in January.

Amusan finished second behind Tia Jones of the US, who dipped 7.72 seconds to break the meeting record and also became the event’s world lead for the year.

Devynne Chalton of the Bahamas finished a close third with 7.76 seconds to complete the leaders of the blistering race.

On January 27, Amusan had beaten Gloria Alozie’s 25-year African record in the event. It was the former world champion’s opening race of the new athletics season.

In the women’s 300 meters, Favour Ofili finished second behind Gabby Thomas of the US after dipping 35.99 seconds.

Thomas set a world lead time of 35.75 seconds to take the crown, while Lynna Irby-Jackson took third with 36.05 seconds.

Ofili is the current African indoor record in women’s 200-meter race. She set the record in March 2023.
