Six Lagos traders arraigned for ‘assaulting’ Liz Anjorin

The police have arraigned six traders before a court for allegedly assaulting and blackmailing Lizzy Anjorin, the actress.

Reports on Monday claimed Anjorin stole gold in a market in Lagos Island.

Other reports alleged that the actress made a fake transaction after buying goods worth N91,000 from a store inside the market.

In a now-viral video, the film star was seen sitting in a store while attempting to defend herself.

But on Thursday, the police arraigned six traders before the chief magistrate court in Lagos Island.

The defendants, identified as Qudus Jokogbola, Suru Olawale, Edu Shakirat, Fausat Mohammed, Kafayat Ahmed, and Opere Simiat Morenike were accused of assaulting the actress.

Sola Samuel, the prosecuting counsel, said the defendants conspired to forcefully push and drag Anjorin, causing her grievous bodily harm around 1:30 pm on Monday inside Oba Akintoye Market in Lagos Island.

Samuel told the court that the defendants’ actions caused a breach of public peace.

He added that their actions violated sections 411 and 413; 168(d) and 170(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, and are punishable under the same Act.

All defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ade Oshodi, the representative of the defendants, prayed the court to grant them bail in the most liberal terms, stating they were traders.

In his ruling, A.A. Paul, the presiding magistrate, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety each.

The sureties must be Lagos residents with evidence of tax payment.

He ordered that the defendants be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Services until they meet their bail terms.

The case was adjourned till March 11 for mention.

Anjorin had previously denied the allegations, adding that the video was a “setup” against her.
