The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, says the Nigerian
Government has set up a committee to resolve electricity blackouts in some
parts of the country.
Adelabu disclosed this on Friday in a statement posted on
his official X account after a meeting with electricity distribution and
generation companies.
The minister reiterated that the lack of gas supply to
GenCos is the reason for the blackout in parts of the country.
He emphasized the need for GenCos to establish contractual
arrangements with gas suppliers to ensure steady gas supply.
According to him, a plan has been initiated with the
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources to prioritize gas supply to the power
sector.
“To tackle the gas supply and liquidity challenges, I’ve
formed a committee involving all stakeholders. Together, we will work on
recommendations to resolve these issues and ensure a more reliable and
consistent power supply for our citizens.
“A plan has also been established to initiate discussions
with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources regarding collaboration and
to emphasize to the Ministry the importance of prioritizing Gas to Power,” he
said.
Recall that Adelabu had blamed gas constraints for a drop in
power supply nationwide.
