Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has explained why Edison
Ehie resigned as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Fubara explained that Ehie’s resignation was aimed at paving
the way for peace in the state.
He disclosed this while addressing dignitaries, including
the former governor of the state, Peter Odili, and his wife, Mary, in Port
Harcourt.
According to Fubara: “Therefore, whatever it will take, as
seen in our decisions yesterday, most of you were worried why the speaker would
resign. It is to tell you what we can do for peace.
“It is not about what we want to gain. It is not about the
power we want to exercise. But at the end of the day, ask what we are leaving
for our people.”
Ehie, who is loyal to Fubara, resigned as lawmaker and
Speaker of the state’s assembly amid the crisis between the governor and the
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Ehie’s resignation letter was dated December 29, 2023, and
addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
