The Super Eagles of Nigeria have departed the country for
the forthcoming African Cup Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
The team flew off to Abidjan from the Murtala Muhammed
International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, around 10 am on Wednesday, ahead of the
competition billed to commence on Saturday.
Players and officials of the national team are dressed in
matching white caftans with intricate green needlework around the necklines.
The styling is complemented by green caps in a fashionable homage to the
national colours.
The Eagles left Nigeria a few hours after a send-forth
dinner hosted by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, on Tuesday evening.
The team had only recently returned from a one-training camp
in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), where Nigeria thrashed Al Gharaib, a
local club, 12-0 before losing 2-0 to Guinea in the following game.
The Eagles are in Group A alongside Ivory Coast, Equatorial
Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
Nigeria will take on Equatorial Guinea in their opening game
on January 14 before facing Ivory Coast four days later and rounding off the
group stage with the Guinea-Bissau tie.
