Free registration for PWDs as JAMB clears 747 centres for UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cleared 747 centres for its 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The board also confirmed to TheCable that it is implementing a scheme guaranteeing free registration for people with disability (PWD).

Registration for the 2024 UTME exercise is scheduled to commence on January 15 (today).

The board had shortlisted 907 CBT centres for accreditation but has now cleared a total of 747 centres for the 2024 UTME exercise.

This, the board said, followed its conduct of a revalidation process and integrity tests overseen by Damilola Bamiro, its ICT consultant.

Bamiro urged those centres that scaled through the hurdle of accreditation to guard their position, adding that as no “centre is indispensable”.

He also disclosed that the board was set to fully embrace the HIK vision CCTV system as it comes equipped with a minimum of 16 channels to cover vital areas of their facilities.

The consultant said centres that failed to record their examination session during the UTME would not be paid for those sessions.

Bamiro enjoined centres to maintain 24 pot switches which must be connected to an uninterrupted power source (UPS) at all times.

The consultant said the board would not hesitate to withdraw the accreditation of any centres that engage in the unlawful migration of candidates from one computer system to another because each system has a unique identifier.

JAMB had earlier created the JAMB-Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) to cater for candidates with disabilities.

The board said it will institutionalise guidelines that provide a framework for the inclusion of PWDs in the admission process.

JAMB said all categories of PWDs will be issued with free registration as a form of support.
