Daniel Bwala, a former aide to the Peoples Democratic Party,
PDP, presidential candidate in the last election, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed
hope that President Bola Tinubu will find a lasting solution to the evil of
banditry and kidnapping.
Bwala’s optimism is coming amid reports of bandits abducting
some residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and demanding ransom of
about N700 million.
The Sagwari Layout Estate Dutse in Abuja was thrown into
confusion after kidnappers who abducted ten persons from the area killed three
of their victims.
On January 7, the daredevil gunmen invaded the estate with highly sophisticated weapons and abducted at least ten persons.
But reports said the terrorists have killed three of the ten
victims to send a strong warning to their relatives negotiating ransom payment.
Our correspondent also gathered that the assailants have
increased their demand from the initial N60 million per person to N100 million,
now totalling N700 million, as the only condition for their release.
Reacting, Bwala urged the heads of intelligence
organizations and security agencies to think outside the box to resolve the
carnage.
Posting on X, Bwala wrote: “The crisis economy is testing
the resolve of this administration.
“Amidst the rising spat of banditry and kidnapping for
ransom, I am convinced that @officialABAT would galvanize a consensus of
national security brains to find a lasting solution to this evil.
“The constitution of a national security advisory council
consisting of 7 members who would be serving and/or retired heads of security
and intelligence organisations such as SSS, DIA, NIA, Police etc to think
outside the box would be key.”
