The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences
Commission (ICPC) says it is no longer investigating the singer D’banj in the
N-Power fraud case brought against him.
N-Power is an empowerment project of the government intended
to address Nigeria’s unemployment challenges.
In 2022, D’banj was detained by the ICPC and investigated
for allegedly diverting funds meant for it.
ICPC had alleged that the stipends meant for beneficiaries of the initiative were paid to accounts linked to D’banj.
Azu Ogugua, spokesperson of the ICPC, told TheCable on
Friday that the anti-graft agency is no longer probing D’banj.
Punch had reported that the ICPC issued D’banj a report
clearing him of complicity in the N-Power fraud case.
Toheeb Lawal of Law Corridor, an Abuja-based law firm, was
quoted as saying that the ICPC cleared the singer of all allegations before a
district court in Abuja.
“The commission
investigated issues of fraud in the administration of the N-POWER Scheme,” the
ICPC clearance report was quoted as reading.
“Mr. Daniel Oladapo Oyebanjo’s name came up.
“There was no prima facie case of fraud against him of any
infraction on the matter.”
When contacted, Ogugua didn’t immediately confirm an
outright clearance of the singer in the case.
She, however, said: “I can confirm that D’banj is no longer
being investigated by ICPC.”
