Youth group of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has cautioned against any plan to amend the constitution of the parent body.
It said in a statement by its National President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike that the proposed constitution amendment would be stoutly resisted.
Okwu said a new Ohanaeze President would emerge in 2024 from Rivers State.
He said, “tenure elongation will never be tolerated in Ohanaeze Ndigbo; this is an apex Igbo body and it does not belong to any one person.
“Ohanaeze constitution provides for rotational presidency and right now, Imo State is serving out the tenure of late Prof George Obiozor.
“For anyone to now think of blocking Rivers State from taking their own turn is unacceptable; it has gone to every other state except Rivers. So, why is it now that they want to start talking of amending the constitution?
“To change the goal post in the middle of the game is a form of cheating and this will not be accepted in Ohanaeze.”
He urged the Igbo speaking areas of Rivers State to rise up and defend what is due to them.
“On our part, we shall do everything, including taking all legal processes to stop this self-serving plot,” Okwu declared.
