‘He was a brother in June 12 struggle’ — Tinubu mourns Frank Kokori

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Frank Kokori, the former general secretary of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

Kokori died at a hospital in Warri, Delta state, on Thursday, coincidentally his birthday.

He died at 80 after a protracted battle with a kidney-related ailment.

In a statement released on Thursday by Ajuri Ngelale, presidential spokesperson, Tinubu described the late Kokori as "a brother in the June 12 struggle".

The president hailed Kokori as a "thoroughbred democrat and activist" who "fought for democracy at a great personal cost".

Tinubu added that the late union leader was "an exemplary comrade" and "was the finest among reformers and champions of civil rights in Nigeria".

"Frank Kokori was a thoroughbred democrat and activist. He fought for democracy at a great personal cost," the statement reads.

"He surrendered his liberty to fight for truth and justice. He was the finest among reformers and champions of civil rights in Nigeria.

Tinubu commiserated with the deceased's family, the civil society, the government and the people of Delta state.
