Amidst reports of surging illegal organ harvesting in the
country, a former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has advised Nigerians
against selling their organs.
Sani said Nigerians shouldn’t allow present economic
hardships in the nation to make them to sell either kidney or testicles to
underground clinics.
He wrote, “No matter the economic situation, don’t be lured
to sell your kidney or testicles to those evil Abuja underground clinics.”
Many Nigerians recently expressed concern over what seems to
be a thriving black market and illegal dealings in organ donation, harvesting
and transplantation in the country.
The development follows reports of an increasing rate of
illegal removal of organs from people without their consent, usually for
transplantation or commercial sale.
