Douye Diri has assured that he would remain governor for all
citizens of Bayelsa State, irrespective of their political affiliation.
He made the announcement in a speech not long after Prof.
Kuta Farouq, the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC, announced him the winner of Saturday’s governorship election
in the state.
Diri polled a total of 175, 196 votes to defeat his closest
rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who got a total of
110, 108 votes.
The governor also thanked the electorate for voting for him.
He added, “I am also immensely grateful to the leadership of
our great party – the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels and our dedicated
campaign team and supporters, who worked tirelessly to spread our message of
progress and unity throughout Bayelsa State.
“Your unwavering belief in our vision for prosperity and
your relentless efforts have brought us this sweet victory.”
