Omowunmi, the wife of Mohbad, has given her testimony before
the Lagos coroner inquest sitting in Ikorodu as part of the inquiry into the
death of the singer.
Born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, Mohbad died on September 12
and was buried the following day.
The circumstances surrounding his death have continued to
stir up controversies.
On September 21, the body of the 27-year-old music star was
exhumed. An autopsy was carried out that same day after which the police
announced that they were awaiting the results.
Shortly after his demise, a video of the singer lamenting on
a hospital bed went viral on social media.
In the clip, Mohbad claimed he was given a substance to
drink while in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Speaking at the court on Tuesday, Wunmi claimed Mohbad
sustained an injury at the elbow during a fight with Primeboy, his friend, at a
show in Ikorodu.
She said the late singer’s “hand was swollen before the
nurse arrived but started feeling uncomfortable after being injected”.
Wunmi also alleged that Mohbad was traumatised to seek
medical care at the hospital because the NDLEA harassed him while in their
custody.
“When the nurse
injected him, he was feeling uncomfortable. The nurse came around 1 p.m. on
Tuesday and his hand had begun swelling at that time,” she said.
“He wanted to leave when he finished his performance but
everywhere was blocked. He told his friend Primeboy to go tell his brother to
tell the bouncer they wanted to leave but they said we should wait for other
artistes to finish performing.
“It was Primeboy that came to complain about why would
Mohbad’s brother be acting rude to him, that Mohbad should do something but
Mohbad said he cannot discipline his brother in public.
“Primeboy and Mohbad started fighting, and I went to get his
workers to come and separate them, and by the time I came back, I met that
people had separated them already.
“During the fight, Mohbad sustained a minor injury at his
elbow when he hit the window of the car. The nurse who injected Mohbad has been
treating him for two years. The nurse injected Mohbad on his shoulder.
“After the February 22, 2022, NDLEA incident, Mohbad became
fearful and refused to go to the hospital because his head was hit with a gun
by NDLEA.
“I was beaten and pushed inside the gutter because I
confronted and questioned the NDLEA why they harassed my husband. The NDLEA
gave him substance, and ever since then, he has not been himself.”
In February last year, Zinoleesky, a Marlian Records
artiste, and Mohbad were arrested by the NDLEA during a raid.
Femi Babafemi, a spokesperson of the NDLEA, had told
TheCable Lifestyle that the musicians were arrested alongside four others
“after some quantities of Cannabis and Molly were recovered from their
apartment and car”.
In September, a source with inside knowledge of the alleged
drug raid involving Marlian Records said Mohbad was never detained by the
NDLEA.
Idowu Owohunwa, the Lagos state police commissioner, earlier
said the law enforcement agency had asked the NDLEA to respond to Mohbad’s
allegation.
Reacting, the agency said it responded to the police enquiry
on September 28.
The police also named Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary
nurse who injected Mohbad, as “the prime suspect” in the singer’s death.
