The National Examination Council, NECO, has warned that the
results of candidates from states that are indebted to it will not be released.
The examinations body said some states are owing it a total
of N5.5 billion, between 2011 and 2023.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani
Wushishi, disclosed this on Tuesday while announcing the June/July 2023 SSCE
examination results.
But he failed to reveal the identity of the states that are
owing the examinations body.
Wushishi called on the states to expedite action in settling
the debt, warning that the Council will not release the results of their
students until the debts are liquidated.
“It is the money we use for the running of the Council. They
should please pay up. We will not release the results of candidates from these
states,” he said.
Wushishi noted that the poor performance of some states is a
call to “look inwards to review their education sector and look also at all
sectors of the education”.
DAILY POST reports that 61 per cent of the candidates scored
five credits, including English and Mathematics.
