Oyinlola Odemewu, the Nigerian artist, is attempting to set a new world
record for the longest painting marathon.
Odemewu — fondly called Lola Mewu — recently took to her Instagram page
to announce the 72-hour painting stint.
The Lagos-based artist also commenced the 3-day painting marathon on
October 28.
In an accompanying flier, Odemewu added that the attempt is certified by the Guinness World Records (GWR).
The attempt is currently taking place at the Safe House, Adeola Hopewell
Street, Eti-Osa, Lagos.
The longest painting marathon is held by Roland Palmaerts,
the Belgian-Canadian man who painted for 60 hours in 2013.
Odemewu joins the growing list of Nigerians who have
attempted to set new world records since the beginning of 2023.
In June, Hilda Baci, a Nigerian chef, was certified for the
longest cooking marathon by an individual. She achieved the feat in 93 hours
and 11 minutes.
Damilola Adeparusi, another chef, started her cooking
marathon for five days.
Then came Adeyeye Adeola who also attempted to upturn Baci’s
record in a 150-hour spell.
In the same vein, Temitope Adebayo, a chef based in Ibadan,
announced his intention to cook for over 120 hours.
Hassan Joshua Bature, a computer science lecturer at the
Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), also revealed plans to undertake a
150-hour teaching marathon.
In October, Daniel Ehis Aiguokhian, a student at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), attempted to set a new GWR for the longest hours of writing fiction and non-fiction stories by an individual.
