‘Kano is leading in fight against corruption’ – Gov Yusuf

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday said Kano State is rated among the leading states in terms of fighting corruption across the country.

NAN reports that Yusuf spoke at the opening ceremony of a one-day anti-corruption symposium on the roles of law enforcement agencies in the fight against corruption.

The workshop was organized by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, in conjunction with the State Police Command, at the Kano Anti-Corruption Institute.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Baffa Bichi, Yusuf said, ”My administration is not interfering and will not interfere in the activities of the Commission.”

He said the present administration had inherited a lot of alleged corrupt cases from the immediate past government headed by Abdullahi Ganduje.

Yusuf said that the workshop would enhance collaboration between the security agencies and the Commission, adding, ”It is aimed at ensuring that the laws of the commission are fully enforced.”

“Just yesterday, a Kano State High Court delivered a judgment in favour of the Commission. The court ruled that the Commission has the jurisdiction to investigate any alleged corrupt case in the state,” he added.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Muhyi Magaji, said the objective of the symposium was to enhance synergy between the agency and the security agencies towards achieving set objectives.

He vowed that the Commission would not relent in the ongoing fight against corruption in the state.

Earlier , the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Usaini Gumel, said the Command and other security agencies would continue to accord the necessary support to the Commission to bolster the fight against corruption.
