David Mark, former senate president, has awarded an academic
scholarship to Divine Okoacha, a nine-year-old boy, in Delta state.
Mark announced the scholarship on Friday at the funeral
programme of the mother of Paul Mumeh, his chief press secretary (CPS), in the
Abavo community, Ika south LGA of Delta.
The former senate president said the scholarship would run
till the secondary school level, adding that it was awarded because he “admires
the swag of the boy”.
“Today, I have decided to please God. So I’m extending an
academic scholarship to this nine-year-old boy whose swag I admire a lot,” Mark
said.
“The boy arranged
himself very well, his poise and comportment are superb. I am therefore putting
him on scholarship from today till he finishes secondary school.”
He said his spokesperson has been a “loyal and reliable”
person to him even though he left office eight years ago.
“Paul Mumeh is the most reliable person. Despite being out
of government, Paul has remained glued to me and my family,” he said.
“He has not stopped
to put me in the better narrative, intercepting the missiles from the media and
firing back on my behalf.”
Dignitaries at the funeral included Charles Aniagwu, Delta
state commissioner for works (rural roads and coastal areas), Sola Adebayo,
Warri-based media entrepreneur and business mogul, and Joe Obi, director of
corporate communication and market development at the National Insurance
Commission, and Friday Olokor, group politics editor of The PUNCH, among
others.
